New Orleans - Katrina (Feb 07)
On a trip to the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference, I took the time to see the aftermath of Katrina (18 months later - as you view the mess that remains, remember this is *18 months* later!). The photos include a sunrise memorial service, churches, houses, and more. I took roughly 300 photos. These are some of my favorite. If you plan to use them or like any particular photos, please leave a comment. Thanks.
Read MoreDr. Carruthers and Councilmember Cynthia Willard-Lewis. Willard-Lewis gave a passionate speech during a general session. She called Katrina's aftermath "the greatest civil, human and constitutional rights disaster in our country's history." It got the audience fired up, but was a bit much. For starters, I think SLAVERY was probably worse. Maybe segregation? The Tuskeegee Experiements? The list goes on... I hope she was this passionate about the injustice in NoLa during her previous 10 years of public service BEFORE Katrina - when our people were dying and suffering in poverty and obscurity.
