Proud of my city tonight for showing support for the tragic situation in Ferguson. Several hundred people gathered at Daley Plaza to protest police brutality and remind America that Black lives matter.
After several speakers and performers, the people gathered and marched around the plaza several times. As the sun set, they decided to walk a giant loop through the Loop. Traffic was stopped and the police tried (mostly unsuccessfully) to keep people on the sidewalk. Aside from some harsh words, the cops did a pretty nice job tolerating some civil disobedience. The irony of being in Daley Plaza, named after a family whose patriarch once sent his brutal cops out to "crack some heads" during the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago. In any case, the cops actually did a nice job from what I saw.
Enjoy the photos. Emotions ran high. Lots of tears of anger, frustration, and grief tonight. It was heavy.
