Rakim and Mic One (Aug 14)
I had to take the chance to see Rakim, the god MC, again. I saw him in January at the Shrine and he put on a great show. This time he was at the Abbey and Mic One was opening.
I saw Mic One a while back when he opened for Jeru the Damaja. He puts on a high energy show and just has a good time one stage with the crowd. He did his tribute song to hip hop again, and it won over the crowd. He should open there 8-) (especially when people are waiting for an MC like Rakim) He did his thing.
Rakim, like last time, was cool a hell on stage. He showed the crowd love and talked about how he likes CHI. When he visits, he says he just throws on his hoodie and walks around the neighborhood incognito.
At one point in the show, he took someone's phone while they were video taping him. Without messing up his flow, he took the camera and rapped into it for the rest of the verse. He even flipped it and turned away from the crowd so the owner could see herself and the other rabid fan rhyming along with him... A video selfie like none other.
Lastly, Mic One was cool enough to introduce me to Rakim after the show. I'm grateful. Thanks Mike.
