I had a chance to go see one of the best female rappers in the game at the Milwaukee Ave Arts Fest in Chicago. Psalm One was back in town after being on tour for a few weeks. I was really happy I finally got to shoot pix of her with some good lighting. I've seen her before and it's always been tough.
She did a 60+ minute set with her live band, Sexy Decoys and Fluffy. Fluffy and the band performed in togas. More than one guy in the crowd was certain Fluffy was going to suffer a wardrobe malfunction, but "tragedy" (?) was avoided.
The set was tight and showcased a good mix of flow, beats, and a stage presence. Hip Hop to me is always better with a live band. In this case, Psalm One touched everyone in a really diverse audience by blending rock, & rap on several songs. Sadly, Sexy Decoys didn't get to do much solo work, but they were great. Fluffy was full of energy the whole show and was way more active than in years' past. It was nice to say hi before/ after the show.
Once again, always good to see Psalm One perform. If she's in your town, it's worth going to check her out.
