Binary Star & Pseudo Slang (May 16)
Binary Star came to the Double Door and destroyed the entire set. It was good to see One Be Lo on stage again in Chicago. This time he had Dekompoze with him. Masters of the Universe is a classic album and they did tracks from all over it. One's verse on KGB is worth a listen if you don't know the album.
Anyway, for over an hour, Binary Star took us back to when hip hop was real. More than a few people new all the rhymes although nobody could keep up with One Be Lo's ridiculous flow and command of the stage. O rocked his verses and it was great to see him on the mic. Dekompoze did several verses in addition to holding down great beats all night. (Side note: congrats on the Masters degree and upcoming wedding bro. The stereotypes aren't real) Sadly, Juice was not there, but our Hip Hop appetite was well satisfied by the end of the night.
Chicago venues, when they do it right, have great openers. That night was a good example of what i mean. Pseudo Slang performed for about an hour and did some really great tracks. I just went on Apple music and grabbed their album. They were knew to me and I can't believe that was the first I heard. Lots of great tracks. The beats are all about the hip-hop I like to hear: Boom Bap with some character. The flows are tight and the lyrics are strong. The musical interludes from Jon Blazini were awesome and he should have been a straight up opener for the show. He rocked it boom bap, crunk, and acapella. Bruh - next time, bless the crowd with more!
Here are my 50 faves from the night and a few vids. I have a few hundred. Hit me up if you want to see the unedited ones.
