From the Ashes 2 (May 16)

Another year, and a criminally under-advertised From the Ashes event at U of C. I was looking for upcoming events on a Sunday and realized there was one in a few hours... right up the street! The crowd was light, but many of the best in the Midwest were here, especially because WiWars was the night before.
In any case, I came through to shoot the BBoy top 16, then went downstairs and never left the All-Style battle, which was fun and had really great energy. In the BBoy round of 16, I saw a lot of good matchup although I was disappointed that I only got to see Vanilla Nice and Sketch only go one round. They can't seem to a catch a break in Chicago, despite really clean rounds that should have gotten them far.
The all-style room was great, as always, and had a lot of really great talent, including some people I hadn't met before. PepC was battling when I walked in and she was fire. I'd say seeing her battle more, was a big reason I stayed for another round. By then, Jaxx, Freddy, Vero and others were klllin' it, and I never made it back upstairs. Lady Jaxx and PepC had a great battle in finals, and I'm glad I stayed.
I added some random videos from the night (2 BBoys and 18 All-styles) so you can see some of the styles on display. Props to everyone who was there.
Side note: Prayers up to Fabulous Freddy Ninja. A moment of silence was observed for his recent loss. This is Hip-Hop. Come as your are. We are family.
Peace.
Oh yeah, if you battled and want to see the whole set from the day, here you go: http://www.kbevphoto.com/Hip-Hop-Culture/B-Boys/1605-From-the-Ashes-2/n-T9j8dk
