KBev  > Travel > US Travel > Manfield Slave Plantation (0605)
While in Myrtle Beach for a wedding, I took the afternoon of my arrival to take a 60 minute drive to a former slave plantation (now a B&B!?!?!).

The plantion was off the highway down a long dirt road.
The entrance had what looked to be the original gate. The "platation" was still nowhere in sight.
By the time the forest cleared, I could see the "Big House". The slaves' living areas were on both sides of the road from here.
A little further down the road, the Big House was in plain view. It was originally built around 1780.
The big house had been restored very nicely.
The kitchen house was in the back. It was not attached to the Big House in case it caught fire.
The old schoolhouse is right next to the Big House
This shot is my favorite from the day. This is in the back of the Big House.

I have an edited version of this up in my house.
The bench actually overlooks the field. It was a little disturbing to think that something like this could have been here while slaves worked in the fields (seen in the background).
