Wildlife > KBev  > Animals > Monte Verde Cloud Reserve, Costa Rica (Aug 07)
The Monte Verde Could Forest Reserve was our first stop in Costa Rica. We spent a day and a half touring the area. Here are some of my favorite photos. It rains a lot in the cloud forest, depite the weather, this was one of my favorite stops during the trip. I put it in "Animals" but it includes a lot of bugs, too!

Gaudy Leaf Frog - On display, shot in the dark with a flashlight
On one of the trails, I nearly walked into this sign (it was at eye level, but I wasn't paying attention). To make it easier to understand, look at the branch above the sign. This composite photo shows the "Leafcutter Ants" in more detail.
The reason you hire a guide to walk you through the reserve is because of this: From the outside, this looks like a dying leaf in the sun (with the glimmer on it) [see next photo]
On of these long nosed bats must have chewed the stem to create a shelter. From underneath, you can count 4-5 bats sleeping during the day.

The appropriately named "Owl Butterfly"
Can you guess the other name of the "Grete oto'? Some call it the "Glass-wing butterfly"
